DAY 01
Istanbul-Gallipoli
Early in the morning from Istanbul.We drive to where you will get information about the naval battle that took place in the Dardanelles prior to the army landings. Later on, we continue to the Kabatepe War Museum, which contains relics from the battle including original diary extracts and letters. Lunch at Eceabat. We then visit Brighton Beach, the intended landing place and the Anzac Cove where dawn service is held on each Anzac Day. Also you will visit the Lone Pine Australian Memorial, Johnston''s Jolly and Chunk Bair New Zealand Memorial. After visiting the Kilitbahir fortress, which was built in 1453 by Mehmet II, the Conqueror (to honor his successful siege of Constantinople), Overnight stay at Eceabat or Canakkale hotels according to availability.
DAY 02
Troy
After breakfast drive to Troy. Here you will learn the mythology surrounding Troy, The Trojan Horse and Helen of Troy. Till now, 10 cities have been discovered, one built on the top of the other, dating back to 3500 BC. You will see and hear about the Trojan Horse, Helen of Troy, the Trojan Wars, the battle between Archillies and Paris, the Remains of Troy IX, the Alters and the Houses of Troy I, dating back to 2500 BC. After troy lunch break.
And then we drive to Pergamon. Visiting;
Pergamon ancient city. After Pergamon we drive to Kusadasi and hotel c/in, and overnight stay in Kusadasi
DAY 03
Ephesus
After breakfast, pick up from your hotel for Ephesus tour.
09:30 Full Day Ephesus Tour
Visiting;
The ruins of the Temple of Artemis. One of the seven ancient wonders of the world. Then on to visit Ephesus Ancient City, the best preserved Greco-Roman city in the world. Here you will explore the Agora, Odeon, Curettes Street, public toilets, Celsius Library, Hadrian Temple, Roman Baths, Grand Theatre, Marble Street. After a lunch break depart for the House of Virgin Mary and visit the chapel where she is said to have spent her last day.
After the Ephesus tour, we will transfer you to airport and put you on a 1 hour flight back to Istanbul. Arrival in Istanbul, transfer to your hotel.

It could be done as a group tour, but I hired a private driver and guide (Private tours in Istanbul) to tour the battlefield. It is a long day trip from Istanbul but worth it. Even though I have a military background and had advance knowledge about Gallipoli, local commentary and the ability to see sites of my own choice and at my own pace was an outstanding experience that I highly recommend to others.

Troia (Troy) starting with the reconstruction of the famous horse (you can actually climb inside) is exactly the way you imagine this town during the conflict described by Homerus. The tall walls remind one of the siege. Especially interesting is the spot where 7 different layers, corresponding to the different epochs, can be seen. Not to be missed by anyone traveling in the area!

This was one of my favourite places in Turkey to visit - particularly as the story of Gallipoli is so well known to Australians. It was so peaceful there (though very cold and windy) and it was really interesting to see the cliffs where the soldiers fought. Each memorial site (Lone Pine, Chunuk Bair etc) is well maintained. There are clean bathroom facilities next to the Turkish battalion memorial site. I could have spent all day here walking around - but a few hours was sufficient.

As a lover of anything historical, I really enjoyed the trip to Troy. First of all we climbed inside the replica horse near the entrance. Our guide then gave us a long talk all about Troy and what had happened there. Wandering around the ruins was fabulous, and the views from the top were breathtaking. You could just see the island of Bozcaada in the distance. The current excavations which were undercover were really interesting to see too!

The weather was grey and cool, and suitably moody. We toured Troy for about an hour and I wished for a bit longer, but we were tightly scheduled. The city of Homer's Iliad is the sixth or maybe seventh settlement, sandwiched into a whole series of settlements since Neolithic times. A fortification wall, some steps, the outlines of a temple, not much to evoke Hector, Priam, Cassandra, Paris, Helen, the whole doomed lot. But standing on a vantage point, looking out over the murderous plain that stretched to the sea, one got the sense of momentous events that shaped history and has stood over the millenia as one of the bulwarks of literature.
